  • herbal-garden01The herbal garden of this institute has been developed as a regional medicinal plant garden of eastern India with propagation centre at Lalgutwa, Ranchi under Chhotanagpur plateau for conservation, demonstration and continual production and supply of quality planting material for distribution to promote on farm cultivation of medicinal plants with the help of National Medicinal Plant Board. The garden has been aesthetically designed and maintained NMPB prioritized and identified medicinal plants as well as local rare, threatened and important species. In the propagation centre plants of selected species are raised to serve as gene pool reserve and a source of supply of quality planting material to stakeholders.
    herbal-garden02In the spirit of facilitating dissemination of medicinal and aromatic plants in Ranchi and adjoining areas, the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Lucknow, a national laboratory of CSIR agreed to organize defined training programmes with the support of IFP as the host organization in the area of medicinal and aromatic plants with a view to disseminate the technologies to the growers and entrepreneurs of eastern India. A distillation unit in the herbal garden has been installed for the use for training and extending to the local growers/farmers desirous of availing the distillation facility.

    Aush Upvan has been incorporated in the “Herbal Garden Network” (www.herbalgardenindia.org) of India as one of the largest collections of medicinal and aromatic plant species.
